Just forty-five years ago, six-year-old Ruby Bridges became the first African-American child allowed to attend an all-white elementary school. That’s within the lifetimes of half the people in this country. In other words, Ruby Bridges is no forgotten piece of history; she’s alive and well and still working to eliminate racism on behalf of children.
